After her husband, Lorne, retired in 1989, they traveled the United States where they made many friends.They enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren.

She later graduated from Murdo High School before going on to Springfield Normal College where she obtained a teaching certificate. She married Carroll Broecher November 11, 1937 in Kennebec, SD, making their home on a farm near Murdo.Throughout Ray and Twyla’s humble beginnings, they worked closely with Ray’s parents Bruce and Minnie. As the years went by, the farm and ranch grew, and soon Ray’s sons Guy and Tim were farming alongside him.In later years, a third generation, Tim’s son Todd, joined the operation.Ray was a crop duster pilot who loved flying and teaching flying to others. He survived this event through sheer willpower as he was determined to take care of his young family.Ray enjoyed dancing, flying, snowmobiling, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking, telling jokes, hosting foreign exchange students, dogs, and South Dakota sunsets on the prairie. Following his discharge, Dennis was united in marriage with Mary Joan Sullivan on June 28, 1958, in Mitchell, SD.After high school, he attended the University of South Dakota at Springfield for one year.

He then returned to the ranch and worked with his father, and continued working there until his death.

She worked at Lee’s Motor Inn, Brady’s Memorial in Mitchell, SD and was also an Avon Representative through those careers.

She was active in the community of Oacoma as a Cub Scout Leader and volunteered on the Oacoma Centennial Committee.

Memorial services for Jo Ann Houser, 83, of Oacoma, SD will be Monday, May 28, 2018 at pm at the Oacoma Community Center in Chamberlain with burial of the ashes in the Graceland Cemetery at Oacoma.

A lunch will be served at the Community Center following the burial.

In 1938 his family moved to the Bruce and Minnie Herman ranch where Ray grew up with his sisters. As a young man, Ray worked road construction and helped build the Highway 16 bridge at Chamberlain, SD.
